Marcelo reportedly cut ties with his son Nuno due to the case of the Brazilian twins: “He is older and vaccinated”

The President of the Republic considers it “unforgivable” to have been involved in the case of the Brazilian twins because of his son, Nuno Rebelo de Sousa. This fact led to a complete break in relations between the two. The guarantee was left by the President at a dinner this Tuesday night, with foreign correspondents in Portugal and is cited by Brazilian journalist Vicente Nunes, from “Correio Braziliense”.

“He knows that I have a public and political position, and I pay for it. I don’t know if he will be held responsible, I don’t care. That’s one of the advantages of cutting. He is 51 years old. If he were my oldest and favorite grandson, aged 20, I would feel co-responsible. But, at 51 years old, he is older and vaccinated”, Marcelo said, again quoted by Vicente Nunes.

The President of the Republic, who guarantees that he spent last Christmas alone, and away from his grandchildren, due to the breakup, also explained to the journalists present that his relationship with Nuno Rebelo de Sousa had already been deteriorating “for months”, even before the case of the twins hatched at the end of 2023.

It all started with Marcelo’s trip to Brazil, in which Nuno scheduled meetings with Brazilian politicians. Marcelo was uncomfortable. “I explained to a former Brazilian President, to party presidents and governors that, if I accepted that he [Nuno] If it were, they would be convinced that the best way to reach me was through their son. And the son would be convinced that the best way to reach them was through me”, assured Marcelo this Tuesday.

Returning to the case of the twins, the President of the Republic assures that he has always been clear with Nuno, “that he is stubborn because he is [signo] Leão”: the Civil House could do nothing, there would be no help. “I argued [em 2019] that was not possible.” Even so, the case would gain political contours and trigger investigations and doubts. “It was a boring period, having a child with whom you have no relationship, and which will continue to be boring as long as necessary”, concluded Marcelo.

The case of the two twins living in Brazil who acquired Portuguese nationality and received in Portugal, in 2020, the drug Zolgensma, with a total cost of four million euros, was published by TVI, in November, and is still being investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office -General of the Republic.

In the Assembly, Chega will move forward with the request for a parliamentary commission of inquiry, following the report of the General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAS), which concluded that access to neuropediatric consultations for Portuguese-Brazilian twins treated at Hospital Santa Maria was illegal.
