“Alma de Coimbra”, tonight, at Cineteatro Messias

“Alma de Coimbra” takes the stage at Cineteatro Messias, in Mealhada, on the night of this Wednesday, April 24th, starting at 9:30 pm. The show is aimed at people over six years old and has an entry cost of ten euros.

“Alma de Coimbra” will present a concert consisting of three parts. The first will be performed by the Choir, highlighting themes immortalized in the voice of José Afonso. On Monday, the Guitar Group will take the stage, presenting compositions by Carlos Paredes and Artur Paredes. The third part, again in charge of the Choir, will be composed of works by different authors, integrating the repertoire usually presented by the group.

Made up of former students from the University of Coimbra, many of them dispersed throughout the country, the members of this group find in music a climate to cultivate their years of academic life. It is composed of a male choir accompanied by piano, double bass, violin and, occasionally, percussion, and a female guitar group (Coimbra guitar and viola).

Based on the talent and creativity of its conductor Professor Augusto Mesquita – author of the choral and instrumental arrangements of all the themes that the choir performs – Alma de Coimbra promotes the dissemination of Portuguese or Portuguese-speaking poets, authors and performers.
