The popular celebrations of April 25th, Freedom Day, begin with the solemn session commemorating the 50th anniversary of April 25th, at Teatro Sá de Miranda, at 11 am.

It is in Praça de República that the celebrations take place. From 3:30 pm onwards, it hosts various events commemorating the date, with the participation of Cantadeiras do Vale do Neiva, the Folkloric Group of Viana do Castelo, Ronda Típica de Carreço, among others.

Viana do Castelo is marking 50 years of the Carnation Revolution with around two hundred initiatives promoted by the municipality and various entities, including theater, cinema, workshops, concerts, conferences, murals, sculptures and much more, until the end of the year.

The program for the Commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April 1974 is the responsibility of the Alto Minho Cultural Center (CCAM), the coordinating entity of the Commission to Promote the Popular Celebrations of the 25th of April in Viana do Castelo, which brings together the Viana City Council do Castelo and various cultural, sporting and social associations and Viennese institutions.
