The Rainha D. Leonor Fund (FRDL), created by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and the União das Misericórdias Portuguesas, supported the construction/requalification of two facilities belonging to the Misericórdias of Lamego and Murtosa.

Lar Arneirós, from Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lamego, applied for FRDL support for the requalification, use and expansion of the old area of the home, in order to comply with the required regulatory standards.

The project aimed to rehabilitate the old wing of the Nursing Home, which has 58 users in single, double and dormitory rooms with three, four and five beds. In addition to restructuring and compartmentalizing the rooms and complementary support services, it was also necessary to reestablish the residents’ mobility conditions, with the leveling of the floors and access to the new wing, through an access ramp. As a complement to the work, the outdoor space was also requalified for the enjoyment of home users.

What made the difference in this work was the creation of a new sector, on the ground floor, exclusively for people with neurodegenerative diseases, making the home more inclusive in terms of the services it offers. The opening of the outdoor park was also included in the project, providing users with a landscaped leisure area, complete with a maintenance circuit and a vegetable garden.
