Today we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution. Salgueiro Maia, Captain of the Portuguese Army, played a decisive role in what would become the most important day in the history of Portugal.

Born in Castelo de Vide, the Hero of April as he became known, was honored today in his homeland, perpetuating his memory once again.

Castelo de Vide evoked the 25th of April 1974 and the Captain of April through a sculpture by Salgueiro Maia by the artist VHILS. The inauguration ceremony of the sculpture was inaugurated this afternoon and is installed in the 25 de Abril Park.

The author of the work, a world-renowned artist, thus leaves his signature in Alentejo in an absolutely extraordinary record that will mark the memory of this date in Castelo de Vide at the highest artistic level.

Castelo de Vide has become over the years a place of worship, devotion and memory, carrying the responsibility of being the birthplace of Salgueiro Maia, exulting in the privilege and honor of building unavoidable references in the approach of the captain and hero of April.
