The European Marathon – Aveiro’24 wants to establish itself as one of the fastest in the world, and, this year, it took the first step towards that goal, as, for the first time, it will feature the participation of elite athletes from the Kenya, Ethiopia and Morocco, which will certainly raise the level of the Aveiro race, which has an essentially flat route, making it ideal for good times.
Whether in the marathon or in the “half”, such as the 10 kilometer race, some of the good Portuguese athletes will run. The organization announces the presence of José Sousa (Heróis do Betano), Vanessa Carvalho (SC Braga), Carla Martinho (Recreio de Águeda), Carlos Costa (GD Guilhovai), Rui Teixeira (Recreio Desportivo de Águeda), Mónica Silva (SC Salgueiros ), among others, in an edition that promises to be historic.
The starting gun is scheduled for 8:30 am, at Cais da Fonte Nova, in Aveiro, and more than 20,000 participants are expected, from 52 countries, and federated athletes will be able to score points for the World Athletics “ranking” and access to other international marathons, as well as guaranteeing minimums for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This is one of the last opportunities for athletes to achieve their dream of Olympic participation, as the deadline for qualification ends on the 30th. 2:08.10 hours in the men’s sector and 2:26.50 hours in the women’s sector.
