Eight districts on the continent are under yellow warning on Friday and Saturday due to possible snowfall, warns the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), which predicts periods of rain for the entire country.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, applies between 9pm on Friday and 12pm on Saturday, covering the districts of Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu .

The IPMA predicts snowfall above 1,100 meters, with accumulation that could be up to five centimeters above 1,200 meters. In the districts of Castelo Branco and Guarda, the forecast is for snowfall above 1,200 meters, with accumulation that could be up to 10 centimeters above 1,600 meters.

The likely impacts, according to IPMA, relate to disruptions caused by snowfall and possible ice formation, leading, for example, to cutting or restricting traffic on some roads, damage to structures or trees, and impaired local supplies.

According to forecasts published on the official website, on Friday the minimum temperatures will vary between six and 13 degrees Celsius, on the continent, and the maximum between 12 and 20 degrees. The lowest temperatures will be in the northern and central northern and interior regions.

On Saturday, in general terms, there will be a drop in temperatures on the continent, with Bragança and Guarda recording a minimum temperature of three degrees.
