The JPP accused the resigned president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque and the CDS-PP, of “using the expectations of Madeirans to promise the Ferry, and they did not deliver, and did nothing to establish this connection right next door with the Canary Islands, when it is publicly known that the freight and passenger connection is profitable without major support. Therefore, if the monopolies did not rule the PSD/CDS-PP government, we would already have the ferry all year round”.

Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) accused the PSD and CDS-PP, parties that ensure governance in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, of having “buried” the ferry.

The JPP candidate for the regional elections in Madeira, Élvio Sousa, recalled that the CDS-PP even said “that if it were part of the government (which it did) it would bring [o ferry]even if it cost 20 million euros.”

Élvio Sousa said, in a contact with businesspeople, that the resigned president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque and the CDS-PP, “used the expectations of Madeirans to promise the Ferry, and they did not deliver, and did nothing to establish this connection right next door to the Canary Islands, when it is publicly known that the freight and passenger connection is profitable without major support. Therefore, if the monopolies did not rule the PSD/CDS-PP government, we would already have the ferry all year round”.

Élvio Sousa said that JPP’s proposal for the ferry connection, between the Region and the continent, “is not necessarily based” on an international public tender for the maritime connection for cargo and passengers using compensatory compensation, but rather on an “open contract based on in commercial diplomacy with Iberian shipowners, with exemption from taxes and creation of a ro-ro ramp and embankment”.

The party force candidate for the regional elections stressed that this party force proposal “has already been worded” and has “no subservience to groups and monopolies that dominate crouched political power”.

To businesspeople, Élvio Sousa made the commitment to “bring more transport competition, lower costs of transporting goods, more products, more exports of regional production which, without a doubt, will help to lower the cost of living and diversify the economy”.
