Dora Morelenbaum confesses her admiration for Carminho on her return to Portugal: “She’s one of the greatest singers I’ve ever met”

Brazilian singer and songwriter Dora Morelenbaum is back in Portugal for two concerts. This time, accompanied by guitarist Guilherme Garcia Lírio, the artist brings with her a renewed atmosphere and new features that promise to surprise fans.

The shows, scheduled for May 5th in Matosinhos and May 6th in Lisbon, mark the first time that Dora performs in a duo format on Portuguese soil. On this European tour, which will visit countries such as Estonia, Lithuania, Belgium, Spain, Germany, France and England, Dora will share songs from the EP “Vento de Beirada”, released in 2021, as well as the single “Dó a Dó” and others news that will be part of his debut album.

In an interview with SIC Notícias, Dora reveals that the new album, about to be released, reflects a different moment in her career, marked by extensive musical experimentation. “Pique” is the name chosen for the new work.

“This album has a lot of mix, exploring various sources of Brazilian music, songbooks and jazz. (…) I’ll start releasing little surprises at the end of next month. In June, the first song will be released”, announced the singer.

A “descendant” of Brazilian popular music, Dora features her father on one of the 11 tracks on the new album. The artist is the daughter of cellist and producer Jaques Morelenbaum and singer Paula Morelenbaum.

In “Pique”, Guilherme Lírio also participates, with whom he will share the stage on this European tour, and Alberto Continentino, “a super bassist” from Brazil. The production was carried out by Ana Frango Elétrico and herself.

Dora Morelenbaum is also part of the collective Bala Desire, a band that won the Latin Grammy in 2022, with the album “SIM SIM SIM”. Asked about the growing global interest in Brazilian music, Dora attributed it to the complexity and multiplicity of facets present in Brazilian musical culture.

“Brazil is huge and Brazilian music is influenced by so many other cultures. It is very mixed and open music,” he added.

Portuguese culture is one that has influenced Brazilian music and Dora even liked it.and collaborate with Portuguese artists, highlighting the admiration for Salvador Sobral and Carminho.

“I’m a big fan of hers [Carminho]. She’s one of the greatest singers I’ve ever met,” she praised.

The shows in Matosinhos, at Teatro Municipal, and in Lisbon, at BOTA (Anjos), serve as a farewell to Dora’s solo performances and mark the transition to a new moment for the artist.
