University of Coimbra organizes 30th edition of the course on Forest Fire Safety: Gazeta Rural

The Center for Forest Fire Studies (CEIF) of the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI), of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), will hold the 30th edition of the course on Forest Fire Safety . The training takes place on May 3rd, Friday, in the Laginha Serafim Auditorium, of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, between 9am and 5pm.

Registration is ongoing until April 29th and is limited to the capacity of the room, costing €75 (includes documentation, coffee and lunch). At the end of the training, a certificate of attendance will be issued with the workload detailed.

Over the last few years, aspects linked to fire behavior and people’s safety have been the main object of study at CEIF-ADAI. Therefore, this course seeks to incorporate some of the essential lessons obtained from the analysis of the main fires of the last decade, as well as the long program of continued research on this topic.

In this context, topics such as “The panorama of forest fires in Portugal” will be covered; “Forest fires and meteorology”; “Physical preparation for firefighting”; “Fundamental security principles”; “Extreme fire behavior”; and also, “Study of past accidents and respective lessons learned”. The interventions are the responsibility of the ADAI team, coordinated by Professor Domingos Xavier Viegas.

This course is open to anyone interested in forest fire safety, but is essentially aimed at firefighters, civil protection technicians, municipal technicians, forestry technicians, forestry producers, sappers, GNR and scientists.

The training hours will be recorded by the National Firefighters School (ENB), an entity with which the CEIF has an active collaboration protocol, in the National Census of Portuguese Firefighters, in each firefighter’s individual file.
