This Sunday is marked by rain, although the sun shines especially in the morning. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts showers, more likely in the interior during the afternoon, which will be snow in the highest points of Serra da Estrela, as well as more intense wind on the west coast and in the highlands from afternoon.
According to the IPMA’s descriptive forecast, the sky this Sunday will present periods of great cloudiness, «being slightly cloudy in the South region until mid-morning and decreasing in cloudiness from mid-afternoon onwards». There will be showers, especially during the afternoon inland, “which may occasionally be hail and accompanied by thunder.” Snowfall is also expected in the highest points of Serra da Estrela.
The wind will blow «weak to moderate (up to 30 km/h) predominantly from the northwest, sometimes blowing strong (up to 40 km/h) on the west coast and in the highlands from the afternoon onwards». The forecast also points to the possibility of ice formation in some places in the North and Central interior, as well as the formation of fog or morning fog in some places in the North and Center regions. There will be a small drop in the minimum temperature.
As for the sea, the IPMA informs that northwestern waves measuring two to 3.5 meters will be recorded on the West Coast, “gradually decreasing to 1.5 to 2.5 meters”, as well as a temperature between 15 and 16º Celsius. On the South Coast, southwesterly waves measuring one to 1.5 meters will be recorded, “decreasing to waves of less than one meter”, as well as temperatures between 17 and 18ºC.
In Braga, a maximum temperature of 17º Celsius and a minimum of 5ºC are expected. In Viana do Castelo, forecasts point to a maximum temperature of 16ºC, with the minimum temperature being around 6ºC.
