Jornal de Leiria – Leiria Chamber awarded support of more than 600 thousand euros to cultural production

More than 600 thousand euros were approved by the Leiria Chamber to support associations in encouraging cultural production.

At the last Chamber meeting, in Leiria, the “Investment” and “Cultural Programmers” types saw funds allocated to them totaling €606,510.3.

The Cultural Programmers chapter will receive €378,438.40, intended to support artistic programming, in areas such as cinema and audiovisual, dance, festivals and cultural mediation projects with communities, says a note from the municipality, highlighting that these are initiatives “which contribute to the democratization of access to culture, encouraging new cultural discourses and artistic narratives about the heritage of the city and the municipality”.

The support channeled for Investment and intended for the execution of conservation and improvement works of headquarters and other facilities for cultural, ethnographic and recreational activities, amounts to €228,071.92.

In March, the same document highlights, Leiria City Council had already given support worth 500 thousand euros to theater groups, folk groups, traditional music groups, philharmonic bands, conservatories, museums and choirs, within the scope of the PRO LEIRIA program .

In 2024, so far, support of more than one million and one hundred thousand euros has been granted to the associative fabric.
