Company that built Miguel Albuquerque’s luxury house earned 100 million from the regional government

The company that built Miguel Albuquerque’s luxury villa in Madeira earned, between April 2020 and March 2024, almost 100 million euros with the regional government, Correio da Manhã advances (paid access). The house was built between June 2020 and May 2021, after the president of the Madeiran regional government purchased an old property in the São Vicente council, in Ponta Delgada.

According to the daily, in the previous five years, since Miguel Albuquerque became the leader of the Madeiran government, he had four contracts signed with the executive worth close to two million euros. Since purchasing the property and building the luxury house, the regional government and the company have signed 21 contracts, five of which are in partnership with other companies, totaling almost 100 million euros.

One of these contracts is the construction of the second phase of the Funchal Hospital and is the highest value signed between RIM and the regional government, totaling 75 million euros.

Also according to Correio da Manhã, the construction company’s contracts were signed with the regional departments of Equipment and Infrastructure; Tourism and Culture; Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change; and Fisheries. With the exception of a contract signed with the vice-presidency of the regional government, in 2015, all others were made through a public competition limited by prior qualification and prior consultation.

The daily also recalls that the Public Ministry is investigating the contracts signed between the regional government of Madeira and AFA and Sociocorreia. Avelino Farinha (AFA) and Custódio Correia (Sociocorreia) were detained for 21 days at the beginning of the year.
