New European Bauhaus arrives in Quintos, Beja

On April 11th, CCDR Alentejo, IP, was present in the village of Quintos (Beja), which received more than 300 young people from various schools in Portugal, to experience the event “Breathing and Living, Quintos”.

The opening session featured the performance of Grupo Coral de Baleizão, followed by the opening speech attended by João Cascalheira (CEO of the Centro Social Nossa Senhora da Graça), Nélson Cruz (President of the Union of Parishes of Salvada and Quintos) and Paulo Arsénio (President of Beja City Council).

During the morning, young people from schools in Alcoutim, Almada, Beja, Cascais, Oeiras and Ourique were divided into groups, in order to come into contact with the rural world of Alentejo, through various activities: learning to make bread in a wood oven, sheep shearing, the operation of old mills, the collection of bunting for use in chairs, among other activities.

In the afternoon, the New European Bauhaus (NEB) forum discussed, at the Casa do Povo de Quintos, the Conference “Quintos com História e Futuro”, marked by the presence of Bruno Cantinho (CEO of Olivovisão), Fátima Duarte (CEO of CEBAL ), Francisco Fragoso (Regional Representative of Portugal Social Innovation); João Mestre (Agronomist and young resident of Quintos); Maria João Macedo (Head of Tourism and Heritage Division – CM Beja); Miguel Rêgo (Archaeologist at CCDR Alentejo IP); Paula Conduto Mira (Architect and CEO of Agroturismo Xistos) and Rita Paiva (Head of Division – Beja Global Sustainability of CM Beja), and moderated by Telma Guerreiro, representative of the Regional Program Alentejo 2030/CCDR Alentejo IP

At the end of the afternoon, Quintos broadcast live, for the New European Bauhaus Festival, taking place in Brussels, a performance with the three pillars of the Bauhaus (Inclusion, Beauty and Sustainability) and two musical moments: the first in the voice of Ana Amaro (voice and harp) and Quim Correia (voice and viola); and the second moment in the voice of Francisco Horta, accompanied by the viola campaniça.

This event took place within the scope of the NEB initiative, through the NEB Festival – Satellite Events, with the project “Muda o Teu Território” and the Nossa Senhora da Graça Social Center, as the promoting entity, through the Social Innovation Incubator of Baixo Alentejo.

The initiative had several partners involved, including the Cooperation and Regional Dynamics Division of CCDR Alentejo IP and was financed, among others, by the FEDER, through the Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2021-2027, aiming to promote European citizenship, cross-border cooperation and the New European Bauhaus.
