The Mayor of Viana do Castelo, Luís Nobre, accompanied by the Councilor for Planning and Urban Management, Fabíola Oliveira, visited the parish of Amonde this Sunday to inaugurate the widening and paving works of several streets, a project estimated to cost around 120 thousand euros, in a moment that was attended by the President of the Parish Council of Amonde, Mário Sá, and the local parish priest, Bruno Barbosa.
The visit began with the inauguration of the widening and paving works on Caminho da Aldeia, followed by the inauguration of the paving contract for Caminho dos Carvalhinhos. Works to insert, widen and pave the Caminho da Nespereira and Travessa do Pincho were also inaugurated.
The mayor of Viana do Castelo said that “We see heritage as a common good, for everyone, for the community”, showing satisfaction with the appreciation of Amonde in recent years, which included not only the works on the streets now inaugurated, but also the construction of the new Mortuary Chapel, a contract costing 200,400 euros, and the rehabilitation of the Church of Amonde, which was benefited through the “Valorizing Heritage” project, in a contract worth around 150 thousand euros for the conservation and restoration of infrastructure.
“Only in a community can solutions be found more quickly”, stated Luís Nobre, ensuring that he intends to “carry out works that make a difference in people’s lives, acting with strategy, across the entire municipality”.
The President of the Parish Council acknowledged that this was “a happy day” to Amonde, “of gratitude to Viana do Castelo City Council for the work done”.
Mário Sá also thanked the local community who provided land so that it was possible to widen the paths, in projects that benefit the entire population.
This visit to the parish of Amonde took place as part of the tour that the executive has carried out through the parishes to assess existing needs and monitor ongoing works.
It is worth remembering that, within the scope of the 2024 Activity and Budget Plan of the Viana do Castelo City Council, Territorial Cohesion / Parishes has a budget of 8.5 million euros, becoming the fourth item with the largest amount of funding. , (9.1% of the Plan’s Major Options) in the Municipal Activities Plan for investment by the Unions and Parish Councils initiative, an increase of more than 409 thousand euros compared to the previous year as an increasingly cohesive territory is only possible through a system that promotes social inclusion and equity through greater equality of territorial competences.
