To mark National Tile Day, (6 May), International Museum Day, (18 May), the European-wide initiative Bom Dia Cerâmica (24 to 26 May) and International Sea Day, (20 of May), taking place during the month of May, the Municipal Council of Viana do Castelo will promote a set of activities and cultural events that will involve the participation of different audiences, from school and general to specialized, at the Museum of Decorative Arts of Viana do Castelo and Costume Museum.
The organization of this program meets the agenda proposed by the promoting museological entities, which intersects with the directives of the Costume Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts, with regard to research, study and dissemination of their collections, giving significant importance to the throughout the month of May, with faience and tiles.
Thus, on May 6th, to mark National Tile Day, the second edition of the Tile Tour in the City will be promoted, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
International Museum Day and Museum Night is celebrated on May 18th, focusing on “Museums, Education and Research”. The program includes, on May 17th, at 3 pm, at the Museum of Decorative Arts, a lecture led by Hugo Crespo, with the theme “More Beyond Pepper: The Decorative Arts in India’s Career”.
On May 19th, the Costume Museum will have guided tours of the reserves (by appointment and group, up to 5 people), at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00. At 10:30 am, a lecture will be held, also at the Costume Museum, led by Hermenegildo Viana, on “Ethnographic Research”. At the Museum of Decorative Arts, at 3 pm, the lecture “New approaches to the study of Portuguese faience from the Modern Age” will take place, by Gustavo Portocarrero.
That night, May 18th, at 9pm, the Decorative Arts Museum hosts a chamber music concert by IN TRIO – Ensemble.
On International Maritime Day, May 20th, at 3 pm, guided, guided and participated visits are promoted to the exhibitions “Viana: a maritime vocation” and “Viana: on the Orient route”.
Bom dia Cerâmica takes place from the 24th to the 26th of May, at 3pm, with workshops and pottery and painting workshops, led by António Coutinho, Agostinho Kunha and Ana Matos.
On May 25th, at 11am and 4pm, the 1st Meeting of Portuguese Faience and Ceramics collectors will take place with visits to the exhibition and reservations.
