The president of CIM, Jorge Fidalgo, explains that the funds will be applied to projects related to different areas. “These funds are to be allocated to various areas, namely public administration, energy efficiency, urban regeneration, infrastructures, both education and health, social and sports facilities, affordable housing, but also to companies, to the success education, intervention in the social area, digitalization and climate change”.

Part of the money is allocated to municipal projects, but 22 million euros will be managed directly by CIM. Jorge Fidalgo highlights that surveillance of the territory is one of the concerns. “There are funds that will be developed and applied by the CIM. Together with CDOS and GNR, we want to install more surveillance cameras to prevent and fight fires”.

However, the mayor considers that these 109 million euros should be applied in areas to solve specific problems in the region, such as depopulation and the aging of the population, leaving criticism of the Government. “We can only attract and retain young people with differentiating policies and, often, these investments that will also provide, in some way, this retention of people, but they should be made according to the specificities of the territory and not almost a primer for the entire northern territory”.

The contract for development and territorial cohesion between the Intermunicipal Community of Terras de Trás-os-Montes and the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission was signed last Wednesday, in Penedono.
