Braga Romana – Revive Bracara Augusta takes place from the 22nd to the 26th of May to celebrate the golden times of the city’s founding with the recreation of daily life in the city of Bracara Augusta.

In its 20th edition, the event proposes a deeper knowledge of customs, influences, culture, dynamics and lived territory through an immersion in the opulent and eternal city with the “Tempus Fugit” conference cycle.

The initiative starts on Saturday, May 4th, and runs until May 26th, with the organization of seven conferences, with guest speakers, historians and researchers into the history of Romanization in Portugal.

With free entry to all sessions, access is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to space.

The first conference, which also includes a workshop, has the theme “What the Romans wore” and will have Miguel Carneiro, from Equipa Espiral, as guest speaker. The session will take place on Saturday, at 11:00, at the Lúcio Craveiro da Silva Library.

On May 11th, at 10:00, the conference “An anthropological look at the Bühler-Brockhaus donation” will take place at the D. Diogo de Sousa Archeology Museum, with the participation of Jean-Yves Durand. from the Research Center of the University of Minho (CRIA – UMinho).

One day before the start of the 20th edition of Braga Romana, on May 21st, the conference “My philosophers and writers – influences on art and life” will take place at 6:00 pm, at the Lúcio Craveiro da Silva Library. The conference will be attended by linguist and writer José Moreira da Silva, professor at ELACH and University of Minho, Virgínia Pereira, and professor, Amadeu Santos.

The following day, on May 22nd, and already in the middle of Braga Romana – Reviver Bracara Augusta, the session dedicated to “Democracy: History and Influences” will take place at 7:00 pm, at the D. Diogo de Sousa Archeology Museum, with speakers Fernanda Magalhães (HU. Minho), Patrícia Fernandes (EGU. Minho) and Steven Gouveia (U. Porto).

The D. Diogo de Sousa Archeology Museum hosts the remaining conferences. On May 23rd, at 7:00 pm, the topic of “Roman Navigation and Commerce on the Atlantic Axis Route” will be discussed, with historian Rui Morais (FLUP/CECH).

Rui Morais is also the guest speaker to talk about “Bracara Augusta: a city of images” which will take place on May 25th, at 10:00.

Finally, on May 26th, at 10:00, the conference “Bracara Augusta: City and Territory” will be held, with the presence of Helena Carvalho.
