You can now visit the majestic carpets of natural petals, on display at the Temple of Senhor Bom Jesus da Cruz, in Barcelos, as part of the Festa das Cruzes.
The exhibition opened this Tuesday and is a reference for anyone visiting the city during this festive period.
The Festa das Cruzes began today and continues until Sunday with concerts by Xutos & Pontapés, Ana Moura, Quatro e Meia and Fernando Daniel, the Batalha das Flores and the procession with the 89 crosses of the parishes in the municipality. Late into the night, there is the “Bamos das Cruzes” festival with music and bars on Alameda das Barrocas.
Tomorrow, Labor Day holiday, highlights the Batalha das Flores (15:00) and the Xutos & Pontapés concert.
On Thursday, the eve of a municipal holiday, it is Ana Moura who takes the stage at Frente Ribeirinha (10:00 pm).
On Friday, a municipal holiday, there is the Grand Procession of the Invention of the Holy Cross (4:00 pm), which brings together the crosses of the 89 parishes in the municipality.
At night (22:00), it is Fernando Daniel’s turn to take the stage at Frente Ribeirinha.
On Saturday, the highlight will be the Quatro e Meia concert (10pm).
And the party ends on Sunday with the highlight being the ethnographic parade (4:00 pm).
At the same time, at Alameda das Barrocas, “Bamos das Cruzes” is taking place, headlined by Vítor Rodrigues, Jorge Guerreiro, Siga a Farra, Marcus and Sons do Minho.
Free buses and 26 car parks
Barcelos will have more buses and free travel and 26 car parks, with five thousand spaces, for the Festa das Cruzes.
This year, in addition to the urban TUBA “special Vai e Vem”, the TUBA offer will be extended to the entire municipality, with the “special parishes” service.
Urban TUBA “Via e Vem special”
This year, the urban TUBA service “Vai e Vem” has seven lines:

As already mentioned, in addition to the urban TUBA “special Vai e Vem”, the City Council, for the first time, will implement the TUBA service “special parishes”, with seven lines, also operating between April 30th and May 5th:

The TUBA “special parishes” service will operate at the following times: April 30th and May 2nd leaving the parishes for Barcelos at 8:00 pm and returning to the parishes at 1:00 am. On the 1st, 3rd and 4th of May: departure from the parishes to Barcelos at 1:30 pm and 8:00 pm and departure from Barcelos to the parishes at 7:00 pm and 01:00 am. On May 5th: departure from the parishes to Barcelos at 13:30 and 20:00 and departure from Barcelos to the parishes at 19:00 and 00:00.
In addition to these special lines, the regular municipal TUBA will operate as usual.
CP – Comboios de Portugal is also associated with the Festa das Cruzes and, on the May 1st holiday, it will expand the number of seats available on the Interregional service 853, 830, 831 and 856. On May 3rd, the municipal holiday, there will also be an expanded range of seats available on the Interregional service 853 and 830.
In addition to the greater offer of seats, CP informs that, on these holidays of May 1st and 3rd, the Celta train 420 and 423 will stop at Barcelos station.

Traffic changes
The celebration of the Festa das Cruzes will require the restriction of car traffic on several streets in the city. Thus, Avenida da Liberdade will be closed to traffic from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am, on April 24th, 26th and 29th and May 2nd. On April 25th, 27th, 28th and 30th, and May 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th, it will be closed to traffic all day.
May 1st – Battle of Flowers
Traffic cut, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on the streets: Avenida Dom Nuno Álvares Pereira, Largo dos Capuchinhos, Av. Alcaides de Faria, Rua Dr. José António PP Machado, Rua de Valpaços, Av. dos Combatentes.
