The Fado Section of the Academic Association of Coimbra communicated, on April 25th, its conviction that the Queima das Fitas Monumental Serenade should be held in Largo da Sé Velha, so that the student city’s traditions remain alive. .
In an interview with Rádio Universidade de Coimbra (RUC), Diogo Ferreira, president of the Fado Section of the Academic Association of Coimbra (SF/AAC), presents the SF/AAC’s perspective on the Serenade at Largo da Sé Velha. The Section emphasizes its position and states that it will not be present at the Serenade, if it takes place in a location other than Largo da Sé Velha, where it has been held since 1949.
Diogo Ferreira, when explaining to RUC the values of the Fado Section, said that it was created with the aim of recovering and keeping the Academy’s traditions alive, hence his strong position regarding the Serenade location. According to the president, the Sé Velha represents the tradition of the student city.
The representative of the section argues that he cannot make advances regarding the position of the SF/AAC if the event does not take place at Sé Velha, however he reinforces that he will do everything to defend the Serenade in this way.
The president, in statements to the RUC, as well as in his intervention at the Assembly, defended the section’s position and appealed to students and residents of Coimbra to fill out the public petition so that everything possible can be done to hold the event in the traditional location.
In just 24 hours, the petition already has more than 500 signatures and they hope to reach at least 1000 signatures.
