Scheduled for August 23rd, Fontaines DC will present their new album, ROMANCE – the studio room, which questions amorphous concepts of love and relationships, alienation and identity, fantasy and reality. All of this converges in a central statement that Chatten sings in a chilling, inviting way, in the song that begins and names the album: “Maybe romance is a place”. Eleven songs constellate ideas that have been brewing between Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass) and Tom Coll (drums) since the number 1 album of 2022, Skinty Fiaand the US tour with Arctic Monkeys.

The album builds on the sonic sensibilities the band began experimenting with in Skinty Fianow with dirtier textures, hip-hop breaks and beats, tones shoegazey and contemporary electronic sounds. Inspirations that come from the time they spent listening to Shygirl and Sega Bodega or artists like Outkast, The Prodigy and A$AP Ferg.

The structure of ROMANCE was defined in the past separately, with experiments in Mexico, the Spanish countryside and Los Angeles, and an intense period of production together with producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Blur) in a French castle. The album represents a provocative sonic and aesthetic era for the Dublin band, now based in London.

On November 1st, it’s time for Fontaines DC fans to watch the live and self-titled presentation of their fourth studio album at Sagres Campo Pequeno, in Lisbon.
