Braga raises 600 kilos of food for dogs and cats

-

Braga City Council raised nearly 600 kilos of food for dogs and cats in a campaign to reinforce the Animal Solidarity Food Bank.

The initiative took place in two commercial areas in the city, with 183 kilos of cat food and 406 kilos of dog food collected.

The Food Bank for animals is a support measure for associations caring for abandoned animals that need help to feed them.

“The Animal Food Bank came to create a complementary response so that, in conjunction with the community in general, food can be provided to felines and canines. From this initiative, our main objective is to contribute to the care and protection of these animals”, says the councilor for the Environment, Altino Bessa, quoted in a statement from the municipality.

The action had the support of Scout Group No. 2 of S. Lázaro.

According to Altino Bessa, associations are sought after by families who adopt animals and often have difficulty maintaining an adequate supply of food for their pet. “These associations carry out voluntary work to raise awareness among the population, thus contributing to reducing the rate of animal abandonment”, he highlighted.

The Animal Food Bank is based at Quinta Pedagógica de Braga.

Interested parties can donate food for dogs and cats and deliver them to the farm, located in the Parish of Real.
