The Municipality of Braga supported exchanges between educational communities at the Braga and Pontevedra Music Conservatories. During the month of April, the initiative involved Harpsichord and Piano students, from the XIII edition of the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian in Braga, and the Conservatório Profesional de Música Manuel Quiroga, in Pontevedra, among the Piano and Harpsichord students.

On April 18th, students from Braga were received by the Mayor and the Councilor for Culture in the Municipality of Pontevedra, where they had the opportunity to learn about the city’s context, enjoy a guided tour of the historic streets, as well as visit the Pontevedra museum to see the exhibition “Castelao: the return to Galicia, 1984. Xan Carballa. Photographs” and learn about the history of Castelao, an important figure in the city’s history. Subsequently, students from Braga and Pontevedra presented the artistic pieces at the Conservatório Profesional de Música Manuel Quiroga.

This exchange project’s main objectives are to “promote common European citizenship, learn about the cultural, social and pedagogical reality of each partner, develop performance skills on stage, learn about the resources and techniques of each institution and strengthen institutional ties between municipalities involved.”

In Braga, on Tuesday, students from Pontevedra were received in the Noble Hall of the Town Hall by the Education councilor, Carla Sepúlveda, who highlighted “the excellent work carried out by both conservatories”.

On this visit to Braga, students from Pontevedra had the opportunity to get to know a little about the city, especially the Historic Center, having visited the D. Diogo de Sousa Archeology Museum and the Roman Baths of Alto da Ctividade to learn a little about the history of construction of the city of Braga since the Roman Empire.

In the historic center, students also enjoyed a guided tour of some landmarks such as the Arco da Porta Nova, the Jardim de Santa Bárbara and the Cloisters of the Cathedral. The end of the day was reserved for the artistic presentation of the musical pieces prepared for the moment in the milestone room at the D. Diogo de Sousa Archeology Museum.

Around 30 students and 10 Spanish and Portuguese teachers were involved in this exchange. The recitals were shared by students from the Braga and Pontevedra Conservatory. “Since there are no Piano and Harpsichord orchestras, with students having to individually build their training path, this exchange proves to be rich and motivating for students, as it promotes the sharing of technical and artistic knowledge between students. who have in common a passion for these musical instruments”, highlighted Carla Sepúlveda.
