The Braga City Council promoted a campaign to collect food for dogs and cats, in order to reinforce the Animal Solidarity Food Bank. Through this initiative, carried out in two commercial areas in the city, 406 kilos of food for dogs and 183 kilos for cats were collected.

For the councilor for the Environment, Altino Bessa, the Food Bank for animals is a support measure for associations caring for abandoned animals that need help to feed them.

“The Animal Food Bank came to create a complementary response so that, in conjunction with the community in general, food can be provided to felines and canines. From this initiative, our main objective is to contribute to the care and protection of these animals”, maintained the councilor during the action, which had the support of Scout Group No. 2 of S. Lázaro.

According to Altino Bessa, associations are sought after by families who adopt animals and often have difficulty maintaining an adequate supply of food for their pet. “These associations carry out voluntary work to raise awareness among the population, thus contributing to reducing the rate of animal abandonment”, he highlighted.

The Animal Food Bank is based at Quinta Pedagógica de Braga. Anyone interested can donate food for dogs and cats and deliver it to the farm, located in the Parish of Real. More information can be obtained via email: [email protected].
