A 56-year-old man was arrested by the Viseu PSP for driving with excess alcohol. The arrest took place in the early hours of Thursday (May 2).
The driver had a blood alcohol level of 1.85 grams per liter of alcohol in his blood and was arrested at 1:20 am, on Avenida Académico de Viseu (section of the Circunvalação between the Fontelo and Estação Agrária roundabouts).
The man was also notified to appear this Thursday at the Viseu Judicial Court.
A week ago, the PSP arrested a 55-year-old woman for driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver had 2.11 grams of alcohol in her blood on Rua Serpa Pinto.
According to the legislation, it is prohibited to drive with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.5 grams or 0.2 in the case of new drivers, during the first three years of validity of the driving license.
If the blood alcohol level is equal to or greater than 1.2 grams, it is considered a crime and punishable by a prison sentence of up to 1 year or a fine of up to 120 days.
