“The first days of Democracy in Braga” is the name of the guided tour that will take place on the morning of next Saturday, May 4th, in an initiative integrated into the Festival Politics program, which takes place at the Braga Youth Center until Saturday.

This is a visit evocative of the advent of the democratic regime in the city of Braga, based on its main events and protagonists, namely the spontaneous demonstrations that would take place the day after the revolution, such as the Democratic Movement rally in the Municipal Square or the outpourings of jubilation on Avenida Central and Avenida da Liberdade.

The visit is led by Rui Ferreira, bracarologist and founder of Ponto Braguez, which aims to be a route through the historic center to evoke the most remarkable moments triggered by the regime inaugurated on April 25, 1974.

During the guided tour, the hot summer of 1975 will also be remembered, which had one of its epicenters in the city of Braga, with the expression of resentment against D. Francisco Maria da Silva and the consequent attack on the PCP Work Center. There will also be an evocation of the exile of the returnees in the Seminary building and also of Francisco Salgado Zenha or José Ferreira Salgado, two relevant personalities from this period, who would be enshrined in the public space.

Participation is free, subject to prior registration by email [email protected]with simultaneous translation in sign language.
