Diogo Leal, 13 years old, and his colleague Guilherme Nascimento, 14 years old, from the Mário sacramento school, in Aveiro, also took “several tests” to prepare. “The test went well. It was good to remember material from previous years that we no longer remembered. It was interesting, it’s a fun way to test knowledge”, says Diogo.

For Francisco Santos, 12 years old, from Colégio da Via Sacra, in Viseu, this way “mathematics is more fun. It’s a game that allows a different way of learning.”

Professor Miguel Cruz, who teaches mathematics and natural sciences at Escola Básica Carlos Oliveira, in Febres, Cantanhede, says that the competition, as well as other experimental activities taking place at the Aveiro university, help students “understand the importance of learning they do in the classroom and the impact it will have on their real lives.” The students “come enthusiastic and motivated, they train a lot and come into contact with other colleagues”, he adds, revealing that there are young people so interested that they anticipate learning. As the tests appear content that has not yet been taught, “they constructed their own learning to answer the questions that are asked about these topics”.
