PS Braga criticizes “lack of conditions” of the old barracks that house Civil Protection

“This is yet another failure to fulfill Ricardo Rio’s electoral promises. One of them was to create a municipal Civil Protection center, but it will not be implemented, naturally, because there is no project or even a definition of the objective. No one can really understand the program defined for the old barracks”, criticized PS councilor Artur Feio this Thursday.

At a press conference held next to the building, in the presence of socialist councilors Sílvia Sousa and Ricardo Sousa, Artur Feio said that “it is urgent” to discuss the “lack of dignity of this space”, where in addition to the central services of the Municipal Civil Protection there are “ other services whose functions have nothing to do with each other”.

“What we found is that, in addition to the fact that the work has not yet started, the building has been without any solution for several years and, above all, without conditions for those who work there. Our understanding is that it should be focused exclusively on Civil Protection, but it is essential that a solution is found. You can’t postpone it forever, you can’t announce electoral promises and then not fulfill them”, emphasized the socialist councilor.

For Artur Feio, “it doesn’t make any sense” that the building, in addition to housing Civil Protection, also has several other services of the municipality, namely in the IT area and the administrative area. “It seems that this space ends up fitting almost everything that doesn’t fit in the municipal building itself”, he highlighted.

Project to be “finished”

Contacted by JN, the mayor of Braga, Ricardo Rio, said that the facilities “are not perfect, but they have dignity” and guaranteed that the building’s total requalification project is being “finalized”, just like that of the power plant. trucking, now called the Transport Coordinating Center, where Municipal Civil Protection services will be transferred.

“The PS and its councilors are suffering from a serious problem of early disenchantment, because for a few months they have been announcing defaults ahead of time. This is an assessment that can only be made when we reach the end of the mandate”, responded the mayor to socialist criticism.

Ricardo Rio rejected the idea that the old Sapadores Fire Station lacks dignity, especially because “it has had several improvements” and offers “perfectly normal conditions”, but stressed that that “is not the definitive solution” and that the building will be “completely rehabilitated”.

According to the president of the municipality, “a project is being finalized that will allow construction at height and will follow a concession model more or less similar to that of the Transport Coordinating Center”, in which a private party takes over the construction and will explore the real estate component. , leaving the municipality with another part of the space.

“The Civil Protection service, namely its control center, which is what is at stake here, will be installed in the new Transport Coordinating Center, whose project is also being finalized”, concluded Ricardo Rio.
