The Municipal Council of Aveiro has just presented the program for the celebrations of the Municipal Holiday that will take place from the 2nd to the 12th of May, highlighting, as usual, the solemn commemorative session and the procession in honor of Santa Joana de Aveiro, on the 12th of May.
The solemn commemorative session will begin at Praça da República, with the raising of the flag, the anthem of the city of Aveiro and the guard of honor, followed, at 11:45 am, by the solemn session and the delivery of municipal honorary decorations.
The Eucharist at the Cathedral of Aveiro takes place at 10 am and the procession will begin at 4 pm at the Cathedral of Aveiro.
On the 12th, the Aveiro Museums have free entry.
Celebrations begin on May 2nd
As part of the Municipal Holiday celebrations, the Mayor of Aveiro, Ribau Esteves, begins on this day, May 2nd, a tour of the entire Municipality. The tour began in the town of Oliveirinha, whose Parish Council celebrates, on this same day, its 175th anniversary. This visit, which will be permanently monitored on the Aveiro City Council’s communication platforms, will last throughout the month of May.
May 6th will also be the time to mark National Tile Day with the guided tour “Discovering the Tile of Aveiro” departing from the City Museum at 3:30 pm. In Aveiro, the presence of tiles gives a distinctive landmark to the landscape and urban space, which is reflected in the countless tiled facades, many of which feature locally produced standard tiles, in details and panels present in homes and commercial establishments or in examples of public art. This visit will be attended by Ânia Abrantes and Fatinha Ramos, authors of public art murals in the city. Soon after, the round table will take place at the Congress Center: “Tile and Public Art: contributions from Aveiro” with contributions from Ânia Abrantes and Fatinha Ramos.
Aveiro Craft Beer Fest and Open City
The Aveiro Craft Beer Fest craft beer festival will take place from Friday to Sunday, May 3rd to 5th, at the Manuel Firmino Market and its surroundings. During these three days Aveiro hosts a unique event in the city center for socializing and tasting many and varied craft beers.
