Tesla drops one place in the sales ranking and is now the 10th most sought after brand in Portugal

The North American electric car brand Tesla occupies 10th place on the list of best-selling brands in Portugal in the first four months of this year, after having been in ninth place in the first quarter of 2024.

According to data released this Thursday by Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP), the North American brand sold 451 cars during the month of April, in the national market, for a total of 3,339 units in the first four months of this year – four fewer units than Nissan, which now occupies the 9th position.

In the month ofApril 2024, a total of 20,895 motor vehicles were registered in Portugal, according to ACAP, that is, 14.3% more than in the same month of 2023. From January to April this year, 89,415 new vehicles were put into circulation, the which represented an increase of 13.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Leading car sales in Portugal remains the French brand Peugeot, which in the first four months of the year sold 8,028 vehicles. Second place is occupied by Renault, also French, with 6,033 units sold from January to April, and third place on the podium goes to its subsidiary Dacia, which sold 5,978 cars in that same period.

The first German brand is Mercedes, and comes in 4th place in the ranking, 5,676 cars sold from January to April. Its competitor Volkswagen only occupies 8th position, with 3,559 cars sold in the national market since the beginning of the year.

From January to April, 52.2% of new registered passenger vehicles were powered by other types of energy – other than just diesel or gasoline –, namely electric and hybrids.
