The Tondela team beat Vila Chã de Sá on penalties in the quarter-finals of the competition. The game went from regular time to penalties, without going into extra time. The Viseu Football Association decided to annul this decision and encourage the clubs to play extra time. Besteiros says that the Association’s position is unfair and ‘damages the sporting truth’. Vila Chã says that regulations are being complied with and, in doing so, correcting an error

Besteiros will protest the quarter-final game of the 1st Division Cup. The club from the municipality of Tondela beat Vila Chã de Sá on penalties 4-2, after a goalless draw in the ninety minutes. The game did not go to extra time and went straight to penalties. Then Besteiros scored four penalties, Vila Chã de Sá converted two. Now, the Viseu Football Association has decided to reverse the decision on penalties and encourage the clubs to play extra time. The competition regulations provide that clubs will play extra time if the game is tied at the end of the ninety minutes. And only then, if the tie remains, do penalties come into the equation.

The extension was scheduled for this Wednesday, May 1st holiday, at half past six in the afternoon, in Campo de Besteiros. Vila Chã de Sá showed up for the game, Besteiros did not. Besteiros team captain, Rui Romão, explained to Jornal do Centro that no one showed up for the game because the working group “did not feel like they were on an equal footing with Vila Chã de Sá”. “The error was made by the referee and was agreed between the two teams. They just had to admit their mistake”, emphasizes the athlete. The Besteiros captain also regrets that the email confirming the extension was sent at 7:15 pm on Tuesday, April 30th, when the game was going to take place “less than 24 hours later”.

In a statement, in addition to saying that they will protest the game, Besteiros writes that “managers and players have several times questioned the refereeing team about the fact that they were going directly to kicks from the penalty spot, after the ninety regulatory minutes”. “We can say that both teams play a game knowing the rules set for this game, both agreeing with them at all times. This agreement culminates and was further sealed through the signatures of the delegates to the game on the game sheet, who validated it”, can be read in the statement. Besteiros also adds that “even though there was an error in the regulations, there were rules applied to both, which resulted in an indisputable result that determined the winner of the round”.

The club from the municipality of Tondela also regrets that “AFV does not accept the error of the refereeing team” and that “common sense and sporting truth do not prevail”. Such an outcome, concludes Besteiros, means that the club “leave this event irreparably damaged, with inestimable losses sportingly, financially and even humanly” and promises to go “to the last consequences” to correct an “unacceptable error”. Jornal do Centro heard the president of Besteiros, Alfredo Leitão, who sent the entire reaction of the club from Tondela to the official statement. The director also left a note that he will meet with the management to understand the next steps to take so that the game can be protested and the case can be taken to the final stages.

Jornal do Centro also heard from the president of Vila Chã de Sá. José Manuel Santos explains that the Viseense club was subject to the rule as it always has. The director guarantees that “the Viseu Football Association took the decision of their own free will” and that, on the part of Vila Chã de Sá, “there was no type of communication or complaint with the Association”. “The Association acted of their own free will”. to comply with what is stipulated. If what is planned is for extra time… The referee on the game sheet wrote that he made a mistake and the Association decided to correct the error. And we are subject to the rule, as always, whether it is in our favor. , whether or not”, highlights José Manuel Santos.

Asked about the fact that the game sheet was signed by all parties – including Vila Chã de Sá, the president of the Viseense club adds that “it is not because we validate an error that the error ceases to exist”. “If there is a judge who says that this is the case, what would you do?”, he stated. The president of Vila Chã de Sá recalls that, “that is why the Viseu Football Association has internal bodies that decide”.

Regarding the timing of the extension, the club president guarantees that “the extension was scheduled at the same time” for both clubs. “They are at home and Vila Chã de Sá showed up. I understand Besteiros. I want to make it clear that Vila Chã de Sá did not apply any type of pressure”, he concludes. Jornal do Centro tried to contact the president of the Viseu Football Association, José Carlos Lopes, but so far it has not been possible.
