PS councilor Fernando Nogueira defended “half terms” in the felling of trees that is happening regularly due to works in the public space of Aveiro. The elected official regretted yet another lost opportunity, recently, with the cutting of fifty copies, on Rua da República, between Esgueira and Santa Joana, when it could have been “experimented with alternative solutions, which, moreover, are pedagogical”.

The matter was raised in the period before the agenda of the public council executive meeting, this Thursday. The socialist councilor began by questioning the progress of drafting the arboreal park regulations that were announced by the majority.
Regarding the widespread felling, he said he understood “the distress” between the locals, the needs for mobility and the conservation of decades-old trees”, but what happened “seems too violent”, he noted, as “middle terms” had not been considered. that seem not to have been considered”, such as “doing half, gradually”. “We have to think better about alternatives, it is better to have half the felling, a good walk and make an effort for conservation”, he defended to the detriment of the option of “felling everything and waiting 40 years” for new trees to grow.
The socialist recommendation was criticized by the president of the Chamber, considering it untimely. “The PS is always late, it joins groups that strafe on social media, we know the motivations”, he lamented.
The contractor on Rua da República is completing a project that took “more than a year to complete”, with “immense discussions”, involving residents, the designer and mayors, recalled Ribau Esteves, accusing the PS of not having been present. Considering everything, 39 trees were saved, the remaining ones that were barely growing and in other places without greenery will be planted 40. The mayor guarantees that the residents “thank” the intervention to have the sidewalks free and other problems to be solved, namely those caused by the roots. “The sidewalks are for pedestrians”, stressed the president (statement below).
