Rui Rio says Montenegro should fire PGR: “I don’t know why they don’t do it”

-

Rui Rio wanted to reform justice when he was head of the PSD, but after “many meetings, with a lot of people” everything remained the same. “No party wanted to move forward, not even the President of the Republic. There is a lack of political courage”, laments in an interview with Facto Político on the day he signs, together with 49 other personalities, a manifesto for justice reform. But Rio does not want to give up on what he considers “the main regime problem” that the country faces and looks to the 50th anniversary of April 25th as the ideal moment to move forward with concrete measures.

In this interview, the former orange leader increases pressure on the Attorney General of the Republic. Already in December he had argued that Lucília Gago’s time had come to an end and five months after these statements, noting that the PGR still believes it has the conditions to continue, Rio argues that Montenegro should point him to the front door: “How come Can a government that is being attacked by the courts ask for a PGR to resign? But the next government can do so, if it doesn’t do it, it has to ask the government why it doesn’t do it, I’m not from the government. government”

For the former president of the PSD, it is clear that Lucília Gago is unable to continue in office: “Someone who doesn’t give any explanation, has an arrogant and arrogant behavior is very far from the profile required for that position.”

The power to dismiss Lucília Gago is essentially concentrated in the Prime Minister, but Rui Rio believes that the President of the Republic must be proactive in the process of replacing the Prosecutor by convening a State Council on the matter: “For the State Council to say that it is unable to do so would put greater pressure on people to leave on their own.”
