Afonso Henrique is the author of the four sculptures that can be found in the “Pontes”, in the center of Aveiro, and, a few meters away, he presents, to this day, an exhibition of “Ceramic Sculptures”, at the headquarters of the Clube dos Galitos, and, In addition to the course of his artistic life, he plans to create a museum. It could be the “artist’s museum”, and, for now, it can make “several collections” of its “non-saleable” available, totaling 300 pieces, he told Diário de Aveiro.
His works have already been exhibited, particularly in the north, such as Porto, but also in Estoril, Lisbon, Figueira da Foz and Caldas da Rainha, as well as Aveiro, and other countries, such as Spain and France.
The exhibition at Clube dos Galitos presents 34 sculptures of figures from the ethnography of Aveiro, Murtosa, Ílhavo, Ovar, Vagos, Mealhada and Caramulo, giving them shapes and expressions, personifying professions and uses, costumes, customs and traditions of the estuary, the sea and land cultivation.
The sculpture “Exaltação da Liberdade” fits the title of the exhibition “People of Aveiro, Land of Freedom”, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April. Precisely, 50 years ago, he organized the exhibition “25 de Abril na Arte” in Aveiro.
