BE wants explanations about authorization to sell weapons to the company in Madeira | Left Bloc

The BE coordinator said this Sunday that she will ask the Ministry of Defense for explanations about the fact that it authorized the sale of military goods to a company located in the Madeira Free Trade Zone, which was dedicated to real estate.

At issue is news advanced by the Morning mailof which the former Secretary of State for Defense, Carlos Pires, granted Softbox Madeira the license to carry out commercial and industrial activities in military goods and technologies, 11 days after the legislative elections of March 10th.

Speaking to journalists in Madeira, on a visit to the Santo da Serra Agricultural Market, Mariana Mortágua considered that the business requires explanations and transparency. “Also because it was done after the elections, and we will certainly ask the Ministry of Defense for these explanations,” she added.

The bloc coordinator said that she “has always defended a more favorable tax regime for Madeira” as long as it involved the creation of more jobs, “which currently does not exist” and “led the European Commission to demand that a series of companies return benefits taxes” that they received unduly.

“Of course, this is even more serious when we talk about a company in the Defense sector, a very particular, very sensitive sector, which is constituted with a share capital of 5 thousand euros, has only one worker, and has an ultimate beneficiary who We don’t know very well who he is, that he dealt in real estate and that from one day to the next he registered as a trader of military goods and military material”, he pointed out.

Asked, on the other hand, about the negotiations between the Government of Luís Montenegro with public servants from different sectors, who have expressed dissatisfaction, Mortágua replied that the party warned since the beginning of the electoral campaign for the March 10 legislative elections that “the right all he had to offer the country was confusion.”

“In the Republic, as in Madeira, we know the consequences of right-wing governance. And Madeira is a beautiful example of what a right-wing development model is, a model of low wages, of increasing poverty,” he said.

The BE coordinator added that in Madeira the environment “is placed in the background” and the “real estate business and favors always end up winning over the public interest and the interest of the region”.
