Rain floods streets and cancels events all over Minho

The heavy rain that was felt during the morning and early afternoon of this Sunday caused flooding, especially in Viana do Castelo, but also in Braga and Ponte de Lima, also leading to the postponement and even cancellation of events.

From what O MINHO found, between 11:00 and 12:30, civil protection teams from Viana do Castelo were called to intervene in incidents on the streets Adriano Magalhães, Escola da Abelheira, Marginal do Rio Lima and Boa Viagem, this in the urban area. Also in the parish of Barroselas, in Viana, the streets flooded, with rainwater runoff not being enough to mitigate the floods. Residents say that “there is a drain to drain, but it is not clean”.

In Ponte de Lima, at 12:07, flooding was recorded on Rua Norton de Matos, which was quickly resolved by firefighters. At 1:50 pm, new flooding was recorded in Ponte de Lima, this time in the parish of Arca, on Rua do Talho.

Also in Braga, in the city, a flood event took firefighters to Maximinos.

In the early afternoon, it was announced by the Chamber of Barcelos that the traditional Ethnographic Parade that marks the Sunday of the Festa das Cruzes de Barcelos was cancelled.

“It is reported that, unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, this afternoon’s Ethnographic Parade was cancelled, a decision taken in conjunction between the Municipality and the Barcelos Folklore Groups Association”, reads a note published on social media.
