A group of around 70 Law students from the University of Minho received hospital treatment, allegedly for food poisoning, following a course dinner that took place on Friday in a restaurant in Braga.

The mother of one of the students, from Amares, revealed to O MINHO that the students had to be taken to the hospital the next morning because they were constantly vomiting, had diarrhea, fainting and shivering. “The doctors confirmed that it was poisoning,” she said,

MINHO contacted the restaurant, located in Forum Braga, and the owner stated that the starters and two dishes (duck rice and cod with cream) were prepared for 115 students, starting at 6 pm, and were therefore “fresh”.

He pointed out that, in another room, another hundred people ate the same dishes, but nothing happened: “I have samples of the food served! I wait for a competent entity to contact me!”

The same mother of a student told O MINHO that the owner, after being questioned by a colleague, “was rude and impolite, stating that the responsibility would not be theirs”.

“Even after saying that the doctors at Braga Hospital had already confirmed that it was food poisoning, due to contaminated food, it was still unpleasant and they repeated several times that everything would be in order in the restaurant”, he concluded.
