The 9th edition of Mercado Caramelo – Mercado à Moda Antiga arrives in the town of Pinhal Novo, a parish in the municipality of Palmela, from the 10th to the 12th of May, with Sopa Caramela as the “queen”.

The main novelties this year are a larger and increasingly authentic space, with the strong collaboration of the educational community and sponsors, in addition to the animation team, made up of 40 members, with extras aged between three and 84 years old. age.

The partnership between the Museum – A Estação and Teatro da Vila resulted in the creation of the theater “Uma Viagem ao Museu” and Mercadito Caramelo includes, this year, Yoga Caramelo in its programming, in addition to the usual activities for the little ones, with Highlights include the workshops “Cheirinhos da Horta”, “Fantochadas”, “Sei Costurar um Talego” and “Small Artisans: in the world of musical instruments”.

Casa Caramela hosts demonstrations of manual milking, cheese making, chorizo ​​and the making of Caramela Soup.

Initiatives such as “The craziest caramel race for rolling carts”, “Hunt to the gambuzinos”, the blessing of the animals in front of the church, in addition to the dances, the performance of folklore groups and demonstrations of Jogo do Pau are highlights of the program, the alongside the tribute to the last cooper of Pinhal Novo, Florindo Morais, with a permanent exhibition.

The 9th edition of this event – ​​organized by the Confraria Gastronomica da Sopa Caramela and the Parish Council of Pinhal Novo, with the support of the Municipality of Palmela and free entry – aims to recreate, once again, the first Pinhal Novo Market, predecessor of the current Monthly Market, held on May 9, 1875. Combining sociocultural entertainment and history, involving the community in the preservation of local customs and cultural identity, are the main objectives of Mercado Caramelo, which also promotes local products such as Soup Caramela and Pumpkin Pudding and, consequently, the gastronomy and tourism of the region.
