The PAN is committed to “light, green and fair mobility” and added that, with the availability of community support and the environmental awareness that exists, “it is unacceptable” that living outside of Funchal means that citizens have to have their own car or that they do not may depend on public transport.

PAN Madeira’s candidacy for the regional elections, which take place on May 26, defended the reformulation of public transport in the Autonomous Region.

The party force regretted that, at the door with the SIGA and CAM service, “this opportunity was not taken advantage of” to “reformulate” the buses in a “closer way” to people nor did they opt for electric or hybrid buses, preferring to focus on “washing expensive” with the publicity given to the “new buses”.

The party says that “for areas with a lower population density where a regular route on a large bus is not justified, we advocate a service by call, where the passenger can book, using small vans that should exist in much greater numbers, knowing the specificities of the region that are nothing new, your trip. This service currently exists in Funchal, but is desired in the rest of the region.”

The party force added that the creation of hubs or small bus stations that receive these vans from more distant areas or with fewer people and then use a direct service to Funchal “is, without a doubt, the way to go”.

The PAN also regretted that several parties “go public to talk about traffic issues, which are undoubtedly emasculating, without looking into attractive and beneficial ways for people to travel by public transport, saving on their wallet and the environment, but without affecting the ease or speed of travel”.

The party force highlighted that it is committed to “light, green and fair mobility” for all citizens and added that currently with the availability of community support and the environmental awareness that exists, “it is unacceptable” that living outside of Funchal means that the citizen must have their own car or cannot depend on public transport.

The party mentioned that in some rural areas and even in urban areas outside the Câmara de Lobos-Caniço axis, “they still suffer” from this problem.

“Having a bus to Funchal at 8 am and practically another one back at 5 pm, without intermediate services and weekdays without any intermediate offer is impractical these days and goes against all the assumptions we defend”, said the party force .
