Fátima, May 6, 2024 (Ecclesia) – The Portuguese Association of Catholic Schools (APEC) invites Catholic schools to mark World Catholic Education Day, May 9, with the reading of a prayer early in the morning, “a simple gesture , but significant.”
On the 22nd anniversary of the initiative, APEC highlights the request made by the European Committee of Catholic Schools and the International Organization for Catholic Education (OIEC), which also suggests that this intention be considered in the mass of the day and that disclosure be made on the respective websites and on social media.
“You will also be able to participate in the webinar promoted by OIEC, thus joining us, live, with the whole world”, highlights APEC.
This online initiative takes place between 2pm and 3pm in Rome (one hour less in Lisbon), which promises to be a unique opportunity to discuss challenges and innovations in Catholic education.
World Catholic Education Day, which this year has the theme “Catholic School – school of peace”, celebrates its 22nd anniversary this year.
This was an action launched at the Congress of the International Organization for Catholic Education in 2002.

Prayer for Catholic schools Lord Jesus, Today we bring you our Catholic schools. Help us to make them places of discovery of everything you give us: creation and science, the good and the beautiful, good and truth, the name of things and their meaning. Help us to make them meeting places: with the others we discovered, with those we are friends with and even with others we don’t like so much. Teach us how to make them places of a better world: with the words we say, with the actions we take. Show us how to make them places of care: where everyone knows they are desired, protected and loved. Lead us to make them Ti places: loving as You showed us, here, so that one day we can live in heaven, with you and everyone there. Make us make them true Catholic schools: of everyone, for everyone, with everyone, especially those who need it most. And may we do so, Jesus, always, in the Church you gave us, with your Mother to whom you entrust us, in the communion of the Father and the Holy Spirit with whom art thou our God, our hope and our joy. Amen |
