It is on the 10th, 11th and 12th of May that the day of the parish of Carapito, in the municipality of Aguiar da Beira, is celebrated and the 510th anniversary of the Charter delivered by King D. Manuel I on May 10th, 1514. The celebrations begin on Friday (May 10) at 8:00 pm with the “Gathering of good men to respond to the Royal Inquiries”. This is followed by entertainment from JI/EB1 students in Carapito with food and drinks. Throughout the night there will be several dances, music from the time and a theater about the legend of Carapito.
On Saturday (May 11), visitors can expect 12 hours of entertainment. The market will open at 11am and there will be a troubadour parade. There will be plays related to the period, music, fire theater, processions, demonstrations of medieval weapons and soldier battles. There will be a demonstration of birds of prey and an “unbelievable kidnapping of the nuns and their rescue”, one of the legends of this parish.
The third day of this event, on Sunday (May 12), begins with the Eucharist and a tribute to the members of the church. The festivities continue with rallies, rioters, riots and various theaters. At 2:30 pm the Charter will be read in public, followed by the presentation of weapons by village pedestrians and the welcoming and clothing of pilgrims. The festivities end with a dance in honor of Foral at 8 pm.
