“If the 25th of November had not existed, today Portugal could be at the level of Venezuela or Cuba, chained and condemned to the misery and oppression, which characterizes far-left regimes”, highlighted the party led by André Ventura.
Chega filed a bill this Monday, which aims to establish November 25th as a national holiday.
“After the siege of São Bento and the fall of the VI Government, on November 25, 1975, the Amadora Commando Regiment, then under the command of Colonel Jaime Neves, among many others, occupied strategic military and civil points and placed finally an end to the ongoing revolutionary process, preventing the intention of the extremist wing on the left to establish a totalitarian communist dictatorship from coming to fruition”, highlighted the party led by André Ventura.
According to Chega, it was thanks to “this courageous and decisive action that today we all live in a democratic regime and in freedom, which was only truly achieved on November 25, 1975, which is without a shadow of a doubt, the true Freedom Day and of Democracy.”

As such, the diploma aims to change the Labor Code, to stop establishing November 25th as a national holiday.
In recent weeks, in addition to Chega, the CDS also submitted a deliberation project on the same subject. “The democratic process in Portugal, which began on the 25th of April 1974, only managed to find its normality and evolve into the system currently in force after the 25th of November 1975”, recalled the party led by Nuno Melo in this project deliberation, on April 26th.
