Dand according to the announced program, the spotlight on Portuguese cinema will be given on Thursday with the screening of the film “Simon Chama” (2020), by Marta Sousa Ribeiro, which premieres in Andorra, with the presence of the director.
“Simon Chama”, which follows a boy looking for an escape from his family, which is breaking up, is a film with autobiographical features, with the director projecting his adolescence onto that character, as he said in an interview with the Lusa agency in 2020 .
The film was shot between 2015 and 2019, and stars young actor Simon Langlois, himself filmed in the transition between childhood and adolescence, between the ages of 11 and 15. The fiction also includes Rita Martins, Mariana Achega, Bernardo Chatillon and Miguel Orrico.
At the Andorran festival, before “Simon Chama”, five Portuguese short films will also be shown.
They are “Presente”, by Francisco Valente, the animation “Apontamentos de Curva_Correnteza”, by Flávia Regaldo, “A belly de Mariana”, by Frederico Mesquita, “O Banho”, by Maria Inês, and “By Flávio”, by Pedro Hair.
This short film session will feature director Frederico Mesquita and programmer Ricardo Vieira Lisboa, followed by a conversation about Portuguese cinema.
By dedicating a specific program to a guest country, the festival aims to provide the exhibition of “alternative, original and diverse cinema” from various regions of the world that “would be difficult to reach the principality” of Andorra, highlights the organization.
In a press release, the festival explains that Thursday’s sessions dedicated to Portugal will be attended by the Consul General of Portugal in Barcelona, Ana Isabel Teixeira Coelho, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Principality of Andorra, Imma Tor Faus.
The Ull Nu Film Festival ends on Sunday.
