This Thursday, the Heroes of the Sea begin their journey towards a sixth participation in a World Championship, after appearances in 1997, 2001, 2003, 2021 and 2023.

To reach the competition that will take place at the beginning of 2025 in Croatia, Denmark and Norway, the National Team will have to pass the qualifying playoff against Bosnia and Herzegovina. There will be two games, the first this Thursday (7:30 pm), at the Pavilhão Desportivo Unit Vimaranense (7:30 pm), the second Sunday, at the opponent’s stronghold.

Portugal are clearly favorites to win both games even though they cannot count, due to injury, on some heavyweights from Heróis do Mar, the brothers Martim and Francisco Costa (Sporting) and goalkeeper Diogo Rêma (FC Porto). A fact that could allow the absolute debut of João Gomes (Sporting), called to replace Kiko Costa.

This playoff also allows the return of Fábio Magalhães and Victor Iturriza, after absence due to injury in previous squads.
