This Wednesday, Francisca Laia and Maria Rei missed their final opportunity to qualify for the canoeing competitions at the Paris’2024 Olympic Games, in K2 500 meters, in Hungary, as did Inês Penetra and Beatriz Fernandes, in C2 500.

In the European continental repechage, the last chance to reach Paris’2024, Francisca Laia and Maria Rei were fourth in their semi-final, when only the first three were going to the decisive regatta, in which the nine competing boats fight for just one vacancy.

In the direct final of C2 500 meters, which also guaranteed a ticket to the Games, only four boats entered, however Inês Penetra and Beatriz Fernandes were third, more than four seconds from the goal.

On Thursday, Beatriz Fernandes will also try her luck in C1 200 meters, also with just one place up for grabs.

So far, Portugal has qualified for Paris’2024 the world champions Fernando Pimenta (K1 1,000 meters), and João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista (K2 500), as well as Teresa Portela (K1 500).

Norberto Mourão (VL2 200 meters) and Alex Santos (KL1 200) will also represent Portuguese canoeing at the Paris’2024 Paralympic Games
