Europe Day is celebrated today. The celebrations of this day take place precisely one month before the European Elections which take place in Portugal on June 9th.
Europe Day is celebrated on May 9th, evoking the Schuman Declaration, delivered on May 9th, 1950, which was the first step towards building a united Europe based on peace, prosperity and well-being of the European peoples. .
At CCDR Alentejo, the date was marked with the holding of a conference on the theme “Democracy, European integration and Cohesion Policy” which included the participation of MEP Carlos Zorrinho, Ana Paula Amendoeira Filipe palma, among others.
Recent events at a global level and, in particular, at the borders of the European Union (EU) have demonstrated the importance of marking this date, highlighting that maintaining peace must always be at the top of our priorities and that we all have a responsibility to make our contribution by defending and promoting the universal values on which the European Union is based.
