Aveiro presents music and dance party created by the community and for the community

Aveiro City Council presents the Baile Comunitário com Brisa do Mar event, a music and dance project created by the community and for the community, which is part of the programming of Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture (Aveiro 2024) and which will take place next Saturday, May 11th, between 3 pm and 8 pm, at Praça do Albói.

The Community Ball with Brisa do Mar is a celebration of art as a transformative and aggregating element, with an artistic installation alluding to a bandstand, built by the community, as a stage for the different moments of its program: a conversation with several creators about the artistic installation , community dances of European and world dances, a concert by Combo Jazz Banda Amizade and a concert-dance by the band CURCUMBIA.

Preparation for the event at Praça do Albói is already underway and will continue until May 10th, with workshops on construction and decoration of the bandstand, as well as dance workshops to rehearse the dances, which include not only the square’s neighbors, like the entire Aveiro community.

The project is one of the Breaking Walls initiatives, one of the participation programs in the Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture program, focused on integration and developed with different communities in Aveiro. This program seeks to encourage social encounters in public spaces and the practice of dancing to the sound of world music, with a cultural program co-created with different communities, artists and institutions. It connects knowledge, strength and creative capacity with the visual arts, architecture, design, music and dance. This combination results in the activation of the potential of people, places and organizations to make the invisible visible.

The participation programs arise within the scope of the Strategic Program for Culture 2019-2030, promoted by the Aveiro City Council, and are part of the Aveiro 2024 agenda with the aim of involving the population in this initiative, launching the challenge for the participation of all Aveiro residents. in the cultural life of the Municipality, with programs tailored to different segments of society.
