The Braga Local Health Unit (ULS de Braga) carried out, yesterday afternoon, a simulation exercise to “test the efficiency and response time of emergency processes” in the event of a fire.
The exercise, which lasted 60 minutes, took place in the Paulo Osório Building, and although the fire scenario took place at USF Rocha Peixoto, the simulation also affected USF Maxi Saúde, USF São Geraldo, UCC Colina, the Laboratory of Public Health and support areas of the Building, with around 70 professionals and 12 users being evacuated.
The drill, which began at 3:00 pm, included the participation of the Municipal Civil Protection Services, the Braga Volunteer Firefighters and the Public Security Police.
The simulated scenario involved a fire with its epicenter in an electrical panel at the USF, requiring the evacuation of users and professionals to a safe location.
“This simulation aimed to test our emergency procedures in the event of fire and explosion, as well as evaluate the response capacity of our professionals and the external services with whom we collaborate”, explains Sílvia Oliveira, coordinator of the Risk Management Office at ULS of Braga.
And he added: “It is essential that we are prepared to deal with this type of situation, in order to guarantee the safety of our users and professionals”.
In addition to “compliance with a legal requirement and the accreditation process”, the simulation also served as a training moment for ULS Braga professionals.
“It is important that our professionals are familiar with emergency procedures and know how to act if necessary”, highlighted Sílvia Oliveira.
“The Braga Local Health Unit is working on planning more simulation exercises, to be carried out during this year, continuing the process of testing the response to different emergency scenarios”, concluded the institution, in a statement sent to newsrooms.
