Around 3600 drawings from 80 countries were sent to the seventh International School Cartoon Festival organized by the Cândido de Figueiredo School Group. From this number, 25 were selected and are now on display at the ACERT gallery, in Tondela.
The winners of the edition – alluding to the theme “Freedom” – were presented on Wednesday (May 8). Among the winners are 13 students from pre-school to secondary school from the Cândido Figueiredo School Group, as well as three national and four foreign students from Turkey, Iran and Indonesia.
In the professional category, three awards and an honorable mention were awarded to artists from Cyprus, Iran, Turkey and Bulgaria. Iran and Turkey were the nations that sent the most work to the festival, which also saw the unprecedented participation of schools from Israel and Panama. In Portugal, 20 schools competed.
The festival also saw the participation of students from Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, India, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, China, Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Bulgaria and Indonesia, among other countries.
The best works are on display at ACERT until May 22nd. The International School Cartoon Festival is considered the only festival in the world that has an associated competition open to the participation of students from schools on the five continents of the planet.
This initiative, which has been taking place since 2018, was launched with the aim of providing new graphic languages to students at the Cândido de Figueiredo School Group, stimulating their communication skills, critical and aesthetic sense. “Health” will be the theme to be worked on in the next edition of the festival.
