After 3 years since its opening, the Coimbra Cinema House shows that it is possible to recover (old) street cinemas, traditional spaces of cinephilia, restoring their cultural function and recovering people’s habits of proximity to the seventh art. With a daily program, the house has become a privileged space to follow national and European production, providing viewers with close contact with directors, actors and producers throughout the year.

The challenges facing us today are vast and will require a long pause while we invest in the effective requalification of the room with better conditions of accessibility, safety, acoustic insulation and thermal comfort. Celebrating this third anniversary, it reiterates its commitment to spectators to promote a quality offer and, also abroad, to promote greater accessibility to the seventh art in the region.

From the 9th to the 15th of May, the anniversary is celebrated in the Coimbra Cinema House and in Salgado Zenha Auditorium (AAC). On Thursday, the films “We Still Have Tomorrow”, the Italian hit by Paola Cortellesi about women’s struggle for a more egalitarian society, “A Couple” by Frederick Wiseman, a monologue by Sofia about her long relationship with the her husband, Leo Tolstoy, and also, “The Taste of Life”, by Tran Ahn Hung, starring Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel.

On Monday, May 13, “The Nature of Love”, by Monia Chokri, a Canadian film that portrays an unlikely love, will be shown in preview. Premiered at the beginning of the month, the latest feature film by Romanian director Radu Jude, “Don’t Expect Too Much from the End of the World”, a satire on the behavior of contemporary society, will also be shown.

In conjunction with the Center for Cinematographic Studiesare rescued The Films We Didn’t Premiere, giving a second chance to works that were not shown there: “Perfect Days” by Wim Wenders, Gregory Monro’s documentary “Kubrick by Kubrick” and “The Boy and the Crane” by the historic Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. O Fila K Cineclube allies with i5 – School Video Festival and presents a session of films produced in a school context.

As IndieLisboa, the films that marked the last edition of the festival will be shown, “A Safe Place” by Juraj Lerotic, “Aqui” by Bas Devos, “Something You Said Last Night” by Luis De Filippis, and “The Dam” by Ali Cherri . After the tour of the festivals, the Portuguese short films that stood out last year return to the theater, “Natureza Humana” by Mónica Lima, “2720” by Basil da Cunha and “Corpos Cintilantes” by Inês Teixeira, as part of the program Entre Muros: 3 Portuguese Short Filmsproposed by the Short Film Agency.

In partnership with the Eugin, space is opened to reflect on fertility with a free entry session of the film “The Children of Others”, by Rebecca Zlotowski, followed by a conversation with Madalena Alarcão, on Saturday, at 6:30 pm. On Tuesday night, cinema joins criminal law with “The Accusation”, by Yvan Attal, in partnership with Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra It is Legal-Criminal Sciences Sectionwhich promote a post-session conversation with Teresa Letras (Lawyer; President of the Coimbra Regional Council of the Bar Association) and Nuno Lemos Jorge (Judge of Law; Advisor to the Constitutional Court), moderated by Pedro Caeiro (Professor of Criminal Law at FDUC).

Along with all the news, “Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus”, by Neo Sora, a recording of Sakamoto’s last concert, “Civil War” by Alex Garland, a reflection on photojournalism in the context of war, and “The Shadow of Caravaggio”, by Michele Placido, about the history of what was one of the most brilliant Italian painters.
